Advice & valuation

Used boat buying and selling advice and boat valuation on Lake Geneva.

Buying, selling, general condition: a professional eye before you sign.

The problem

Buying a used boat without knowing its real condition means risking thousands in hidden repairs. Selling without knowing its price means giving it away, or not selling at all.

Our answer

A professional who comes on board, inspects, tests and tells you straight: general condition, points to watch, an estimate of its value or of the work ahead. Everything you need to decide with confidence.

    On quotation

Every boat is different: prices are quoted after a visit on board.

Before you buy a used boat

A listing and a few photos do not tell the whole story. We go on board, inspect and test, then tell you plainly what we see: general condition, points to watch, work to plan, value compared with the market. We look closely at what Lake Geneva leaves on a boat kept afloat: limescale on the hull and stainless steel, worn mooring lines, the state of the bilge. You negotiate, or walk away, knowing the facts.

Selling at the right price

An overpriced boat stays at the dock, an underpriced one sells at a loss. We value it and advise you on presenting it, on the listing and on buyer viewings, which we can attend. A full steam clean before the photos often makes the difference.

Professional advice or marine survey?

Our service is not an approved marine survey: that is carried out by a sworn marine surveyor and is often required by insurers. Our advice comes first: simpler and less costly, it saves you unpleasant surprises. If a survey is needed, we refer you to approved surveyors and can go with you.

On the French shore, and further on request

Our usual ground is the French shore of Lake Geneva, from Chens-sur-Léman to Évian-les-Bains, with our base in Nernier harbour. For a purchase or sale elsewhere around the lake, we look at each request case by case.

How is this different from a marine survey?

An approved survey is carried out by a sworn marine surveyor and is often required by insurers. Ours is a prior professional opinion, less formal and less expensive, that spares you nasty surprises.

Do you work on boats outside the French shore?

Our home ground is the French shore of Lake Geneva, but we consider one-off requests anywhere around the lake.

Can you help me sell my boat?

Yes: presentation, a realistic asking price, advice on your listing and support during viewings.

Can you view a boat on my behalf?

Yes. If you cannot travel, we go on board and give you a written general condition report, with photos, points to watch and an estimate of value and work to plan.

What does the written report include?

A general condition report on the boat, photos, the points to watch noted on board, an estimate of market value and of the work to plan. Enough to negotiate, budget or walk away knowing the facts.

Can you support me all the way to signing?

Yes, that is our full support plan: from finding the boat to signing, an adviser at your side for viewings, valuation, negotiation and, if needed, introductions to boatyards and surveyors.
